Man Holds Woman Captive, Fires Gun Inside Capital Region Home, Police Say

A domestic violence call in the region ended with a 37-year-old man in handcuffs accused of holding a woman against her will and threatening her with a loaded gun.

The incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, in Albany, at a home on Clinton Avenue near Henry Johnson Boulevard, according to Albany Police.

After arriving at the home to investigate reports of a domestic disturbance, officers learned that a woman inside had been held against her will by 37-year-old Mallah Dickson, police said.

Dickson also fired a single shot from an illegally possessed handgun inside the home and allegedly threatened to shoot the victim. 

Police later recovered the 9mm gun, which was still loaded.

The woman was not injured during the ordeal.

Dickson was handcuffed at the scene and charged with the following:

  • Unlawful imprisonment
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Criminal possession of a weapon

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Wednesday, July 19, and was ordered held at the Albany County jail.
